Numerous studies in places like the Harvard Business Review find that the way people feel at work profoundly influences how they perform. Keeping this in mind, it is safe to say that the way we manage so-called failure will also profoundly influence our level of achievement.

We want to redefine failure and shift our point of view to a more supportive perspective. We have all come to recognize failure to be the disguise of a great teacher and a necessary step to achieve greatness, make a difference, and enhance performance.

I can remember my early days as a Silva instructor. I was full of passion to make a difference and change the world (I still am) and yet I lacked the business skills necessary to support my Vision. I cannot even remember how many mistakes – so-called failures I made. I nearly bankrupted myself. I found myself loading trucks for UPS from 4 AM to 9 AM and then working as a waiter in a restaurant from 11 AM to 10 PM just to pay the bills and subsidize my passion for Silva. It was not fun at all.

I eventually came to realize that I was getting closer and closer to become a full time, top producing, prospering Silva Instructor. I feel very blessed and appreciative for this accomplishment.

The lesson here is that we are in a constant state of flux, strategizing, implementing and adjusting along the way. It is much easier to make corrections once we have some momentum. It is inevitable to make mistakes along the way. Nobody is 100%. It is not a problem to fail. It is, however tragic to not learn the lessons from the mistakes or so-called failures.

And as Lao Tzu once said,

“Failure is the foundation of success, and the means by which it is achieved.”

There are many factors that cause the fear of failure and make it difficult to overcome failure. I would suggest that when we have unrealistic expectations and strive for Perfection, we are doomed to experience shame-based, toxic emotions of shame, and guilt resulting in us feeling less than deserving of success. This leads to low Self-Esteem and greatly weakens the Attractor Factor to create the life of our design. The net result is procrastination and thinking small.

It is important to remember that no one is perfect and there is no such thing as perfect. We are just not wired for perfection. Science teaches us that even the universe is continually changing, correcting and growing. Psychiatrists and Psychologists offices are overcrowded with people suffering from guilt and shame due to the unrealistic expectation of Perfection. Business and production stalls as a result of the inevitable reaction of small-mindedness and procrastination due to the fear of failure when people get stuck in this trap of Perfection.

How to transform failure into an opportunity to grow and transform the fear into hope.

FIRST, you’ll want to shift your perspective and acknowledge right here and now that S……(Stuff) happens. Even the most fortunate of men and women experience occasional setbacks, so-called failures. Some of these life events are NOT within our control and surprisingly many are. The one thing that you and I have absolute control of is our viewpoint and interpretation of life’s events. Psychologists call this the “Point of Power”.  So reframe your attitude about failure.

How?  The SECOND step –  embrace the fact that you are not perfect and are bound to make some errors along life’s journey. It is not personal and when the s…. hits the fan, it is feedback that you need to evaluate, assess the situation and make a change in your approach.

THIRD: Celebrate and appreciate the failure! That’s right you heard me correctly. Keep affirming that with each and every mistake, you are one step closer to realizing your goal. Express gratitude for the feedback and learn from it.

FOURTH: Remember that no one does it alone. Seek help, advise, support, training and maybe even take someone you admire who is achieving big time, to lunch. We become just like the people we spend most of our time with. So be more selective of who and where you spend your time. It is called modeling and is a very powerful tool that even neuro-science will verify.

And most importantly, Believe in yourself. I know, everybody tells us to believe.

Well, it is true and the surest way to build your belief in yourself is, to begin with small, tangible goals and then celebrate and appreciate the small success.

These small baby steps will lead to even grander accomplishments. This action will strengthen your Courage Muscle. You do this by planning, strategizing, research, hire a coach, and attend a live seminar with like-minded people.

I also want you to look in the mirror and affirm… ”I love and accept myself, just the way I am and I choose to get better.” Another powerful affirmation is… “I deserve to succeed.” AND “I AM ENOUGH”!

I also want you to integrate this into your daily dynamic meditation practice like you learned in Silva Seminars. Add the visual component to these affirmations by creatively visualizing yourself making constant progress and future pace it. That is imagine your life vision continually expanding, as the weeks, months and years pass. And FEEL IT.

In closing, remember the words…”Winners never quit and quitters never win.”

Make a commitment to yourself right here and now that you deserve to succeed. Failure is not an option. Perhaps, you remember Jerry C. Bostick, the NASA flight controller who prevented a disaster when he reportedly stated during the Apollo 13 damaged mission that Failure is not an option. Let’s bring them back to earth!

SUMMARY OF THE TECHNIQUE

  • At night before going to sleep review the day.
  • Appreciate and feel gratitude for any progress made.
  • Acknowledge any mistake, error, screw up and GIVE YOURSELF
      PERMISSION not to be perfect.
  • Rewind back to the mistake as if you were there now and tell yourself, I’m better than that.                         This is not how I want to be. Then be like a movie director and imagine and/or visualize the way you prefer to be.

BETTER & BETTER

Have you ever struggled with keeping up with your Silva practice, personal development and/or meditation practice?

Have you ever found yourself slipping back into those old unrewarding patterns of behavior?

I’m sure the answer is YES if you’re like the rest of us. Our lives are packed with demands on our time. The result is that the quality of our self-care plummets. It’s frustrating! I know because I’ve been there too.

Feeding our souls is sooo necessary in order to create new positive patterns that LAST. It’s just like a garden. You plant beautiful flowers, a rich green lawn. If you don’t provide the necessary sunlight, nutrients, and water, the result is  – the weeds take over.

I want you to create and use a personal library to support your consistent growth and development. Regardless of what it is. Use it, if it provides you the support you need. You will be working to change your brain and body to be greater than your environment. This allows you to truly Take Command Of Your Life.

I’m sure you can agree that self-confidence is vitally important when you consider the extremely high levels of uncertainty so many people are feeling these days. So much is happening so fast. Many people are facing the need to re-invent your health, relationships and career – finances. There seems to be so much to learn.

I know because I am also re-inventing how I connect with my students and also how to offer high value courses online. Admittedly, at times it feels like a daunting mission with constant learning needed. So much so that I have felt frustrated and even thinking to throw the towel in.

How about you? Can you relate?

I am continually reminded that with the right training and tools, it’s easier as long as you have the confidence in yourself to be able to figure things out. Fortunately I have and use the Silva tools to continue to believe that I can figure things out. I’d like to assist you to do the same.

Confidence in oneself comes from experience, wisdom and especially from having evidence that you have indeed made progress and/or enjoyed some wins. It becomes a resource state that enables you to move through life with a higher degree of certainty and FLOW.

You create a resource state of hope, confidence and certainty by reliving with intense positive emotion a past moment of excellence and lock it in with a trigger such as your three fingers held together. You may remember this tool that you learn in Silva Life System.

Upon reading some of the latest research in Neuroscience and advanced Psychology about peak performance and some of the myths associated with so-called gifted people in PEAK by Anders Ericsson and Robert Poole.

I am fascinated by how their research findings reported so closely parallels what I have also observed in my work in the Silva training and developing intuition.  I want to pass on to you some ideas that can help you.

The authors wrote, “Clearly the research shows that we are mistaken to assume that people who we often think are high achievers, the best in their field (in any field) are born that way.

We all know that practice makes perfect. Right?”

There are distinctions that separate the so-called gifted from the rest of us.

One such distinction is called Deliberate Practice or purposeful practice.

“The research has shown that generally speaking, once a person attains a level of acceptable performance and is on auto-pilot, the additional years of practice don’t lead to improvement.”

This would explain how it is so common for people to reach a plateau and get stuck there. This could be in your health, the quality of your relationships, sales performance and even your golf game.

“The science shows that the most effective and most powerful type of practice in any field work is accomplished by harnessing the adaptability of the human body and brain to create, step by step, the ability to do things that were previously not possible.

It involves getting out of our comfort zone but do it in a focused way, with clear goals, a plan for reaching those goals, and a way to monitor your progress. And of course, have support to maintain your motivation.”

It has been my experience that with what Anders and Poole call deliberate – purposeful practice “Flow State”: a neurological phenomenon documented by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, distinguished professor of Psychology – Claremont Graduate University is the result.

It is the experience of the feeling that the “universe” has got your back. This is especially true when it comes to consciously awakening, trusting and applying intuition to create a more fulfilling life.

Have you ever struggled with trusting your intuition?

Have you ever wished you had listened and trusted your intuition?

If your answer is yes, welcome to the club. I know for I have also had these struggles from time to time. It can be so tricky when it comes to something so subjective as intuition, gut feelings and/or inner wisdom.

If you are building a business, in sales, working as a coach and or therapist or just want to feel more intimately connected with loved ones, you’ve come to recognize that things are not always as they appear to be.

So often we get impressions that go beyond logic and reasoning that prove to be insightful and make a world of difference in our effectiveness.

So many of you over the years have honored me with your attendance in my Silva Basic Lecture Series and now Silva Life & Intuition System where we go much deeper into this work.

Activating intuition with control and focus is an art form and skill that anyone can develop with the right training and practice.

Recently, a coach/mentor client of mine who felt like she was stuck, was able to boost her sales from a few hundred a week to $1,100 in a week after only two weeks of applying these principles.

Another client after 4-5 weeks is now getting through his demanding schedule with greater ease and increasing quality time with the family.

SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU AWAKEN AND DEVELOP INTUITION

1. First and foremost is using the skill to stay calm and focused even under pressure. You can sustain a calmer more relaxed state by making meditation a daily practice, taking a nature walk, enjoying some art, dance and/or music.

2. Intuition can be developed like any other skill. It takes time, patience and practice; so in order to sustain your motivation, you need to be clear about your purpose or big why you want to develop your intuition.

3. Logic, reasoning and critical thinking skills are the polar opposite of intuition. Being playing and making a game of your practice sessions will assure you more creative/intuitive expression.

The Silva Method now in our 52nd year continues to offer you a step by step proven approach to get into a “Flow State”.  And the “LIVE” 4 Day Immersion Experience of Life and Intuition System is proven to be the most powerful way to get into Flow.

I will start helping you from the moment you register to attend by helping you clearly define your goals. I will send you a simple questionnaire exercise that will help you clarify what you want.

Then you will have my undivided attention as I guide you step by step during the Immersion Experience and give you constant feedback as you begin to practice applying what you learn to promote better health, enrich a relationship, manage your weight, improve sales and/or athletic performance and more.

You will also step out of your comfort zone in a fun way by playing games with your intuition and have the direct experience of having very accurate experiences with your intuition.

Most admit that they are blown away by these intuition games and the result is a giant shift into a much more hopeful, optimistic belief in yourself and your ability.

And it doesn’t stop at the completion of the Immersion. You will receive ongoing support with free video training, inspiration, motivation and a lifetime of free review privileges. Oh yeah, there is a small reviewer seat charge.

Most importantly, your satisfaction is guaranteed. All I ask is that you experience the entire 4 days from start to finish and then evaluate. If you do not agree that it’s one of the best investments in yourself that you’ve ever made, you upon completing the program can return the materials I gave you and request a refund.

So you can only gain from this!

The upcoming Immersions in Farmington and Chicago are beginning to fill up.  This is your opportunity to get into flow now and stay there; so grab your seat while you can.

Registration in each location is limited to the first 24 to register; so act now and be sure to claim your seat. Convenient time payments can also be arranged with Barbara at 860 674-1009.

I hope you will join me and take a leap of faith in yourself and the power of this purposeful training with me.

Retraining the brain to create neural pathways requires focusing on a clear intention with elevated emotions and repetition. This video lesson was prepared for Ken’s Silva Method students to inspire them to make a daily practice of their Silva skills.

There are four principles that make up the foundational framework that all personal and professional development programs are built on. These principles are universal, simple, straightforward and a challenge to adhere to.

High Performance, getting what you want or manifesting like a Master is all about taking command of your life from the inside out.
The 4 Step Process is the very core – foundation to any self-improvement modality.

1. Cultivate creative thoughts of possibilities…your Best Self. This is the trigger – switch – spark that fires ……

2. Feelings – Emotions -memories which cause the brain to release a flood of neurochemicals that…..

3. Produce a State of Being – mentally and physically which has a direct influence on the quality of our actions/behaviors – performance which…….

4. Affects the Outcome and/or Results!

Cultivating creative thoughts is the key to start the process of bringing out your Best Self and a life defined by a vision of the future.

Think Outside Of the Box – A Neuro Tip from Mark Waldman
“Repeated exposure to the same ideas weakens the brain’s ability to take action. Neurons become more active during any form of learning, and thus we are more motivated when we are introduced to new experiences, feelings, and thoughts. Whenever we are learning something new, communication between neurons improves, whereas old ideas put the brain to sleep. So if you want to stay happy, healthy, and interested in life, expose yourself to new people, experiences, and ideas.  Eric Kandel won the Nobel Prize for his discoveries about learning and habituation by studying the effects on the neurons of sea slugs!”

Silva Method Practitioners – A Friendly Reminder

  • The Memory Pegs – Fantastic Voyage Exercise – Laboratory And Counselors – Mental Projection Exercises are excellent tools to cultivate creative thought and thinking out of the box.
  •  You can then use Mirror of The Mind and/or Holoviewing to program your goals and Life Vision.

You can reduce and/or eliminate inner conflict and the resulting emotional pain by first recognizing that conflict is OK and inevitable.

When faced with a challenging situation, negative/angry person and/or feeling out of integrity, you can ask:

1. Can I change him/her?

2. Can I Fix him/her?

3. Can I help him/her?

4. Can I change me? (the most effective)

I use these questions to help me work through negative emotions and upsets with other people. The use of these questions has made a big difference and I’d like to help you to do the same.

I recommend that you ask these questions and reflect on your answers while in a relaxed meditative state; ie Alpha level.

One of the dynamic meditation tools that I use throughout my personal and professional life to amplify the benefits of the clarity gained with the conflict questions is the Open Your Heart Meditation

We, as we move through life, experience many challenges, demands and temporary setbacks… stressors. These demands coupled with an inability to manage them can lead to disharmony, imbalance and overwhelm. It’s as if the Ego is having a tantrum. We, under these conditions, can become self absorbed, self centered and needy and thus lose our effectiveness as a human being.

The Opening Your Heart Meditation is recommended as a technique to calm the Ego and transform your energy into a higher expression… to center in love.  If we vibrate with love, prosperity and happiness, we will attract more love, prosperity and happiness. It is a simple and yet a profound truth.

The Opening Your Heart Meditation is a guided dynamic meditation that can raise the energy of your vibration and strengthen the coherence and power of your heart chakra to enhance your manifestation skill. Practicing with this exercise can calm restless feelings and transform your energy into a higher expression… to center in love. And as a side benefit you will sleep so much better and even improve communication and your manifestation skills.

The Opening Your Heart Meditation is now available as a mini-course.
You can check it out by clicking here.

We live in unprecedented times with so many opportunities available to us to improve the quality of life, live with purpose, improve relationships, build a new business and manifest prosperity. I do believe this to be true. All the data supports this contention. I feel very fortunate about the life I’ve created and yet sometimes this belief is hard to believe; especially when we witness the volume of uncertainty, the political climate and the ever widening disparity culturally and economically.

How about you?

Regardless of how crazy life seems to get or how overwhelmed we feel, the solution lies in our ability to sustain confidence. Not the positive thinking kind of confidence which is great BUT the kind of confidence we have in our ability to somehow, someway figure things out. The kind of confidence where we can say, Hey I’ve been there, done that and it worked out. If I did it before, I can do it again.

I honor you and the persistent efforts you’ve made the work through the struggles.

Building confidence is a necessary exercise for many of us.

Confidence in oneself comes from experience, wisdom and especially from having evidence that you have indeed made progress and/or enjoyed some wins. It becomes a resource state that enables you to move through life with a higher degree of clarity, focus and FLOW.

Self-confidence does not always come naturally. Building it up takes deliberate, conscious effort. While no step-by-step program (even Silva) is perfect, there are some steps that may help you build up your sense of confidence.

You create a resource state of hope, confidence and certainty by reliving with intense positive emotion a past moment of excellence and lock it in with a trigger that you can use when you need it in a new situation to access the feelings of confidence; such as your three fingers held together.

This video lesson is evidence based in Neuro-Psychology, studies on cellular memory and the work of Dr. Albert Ellis. Enjoy and please I’d love to hear from you and your comments.

PLUS A NEW YEAR REFLECTION

The New Year Reflection idea comes to us via my friend Jon Butcher of Lifebook whom I have deep respect for. His  buddy Tim Ferris sent it to him  and I want to share it with you. I do this exercise periodically.

Tim says that REFLECTION on last year is way more important than setting goals for the coming new year – especially if you’re doing it in a vacuum.

FIRST: Ask yourself, what REALLY WORKED for you in 2016? What were your biggest wins?
What were the 20% of your actions that yielded 80% of your results? Really dial into that – and then commit to doing MORE of that stuff next year. Write down what that might look like.

SECOND: What DIDN’T WORK for you last year? What people, projects and initiatives created stress and urgency in your life?
Make that list – and then commit to ELIMINATING that stuff in 2017. Write down what that might look like too.

Tim says that these two lists should be the FOUNDATION of your goals for the coming new year, so you’re building on something tangible, tried and true.

Makes perfect sense to me and I’m going to do it this year. And it makes sense to do anytime.

So if you’re game, block out a couple of uninterrupted hours, grab a cup of hot chocolate or your favorite beverage and put this exercise to work for you.
Enjoy!
